In 1673 Finns began migrating to the north and settled on the banks of the River Kemijoki and River Kitinen. This excursion takes you to some of these historical villages, such as Pyhäjärvi, Suvanto, Kairala, Luiro and Pelkosenniemi.
During the visit to Pelkosenniemi you will learn about the battle of Pelkosenniemi that took place during the Winter War in 1939. It is one of the most important battles in Lappish history.
When desired, the excursion can continue to visit the Sokanaapa mire and its observation tower. The trail to the tower is wheelchair accessible and about 500 metres in length.
